What is the Alliance for Self Care Research ?

Who is involved?

The Alliance for Self Care Research is a consortium of the universities of Aberdeen, Abertay, Dundee, Robert Gordon, St Andrews and Stirling and their local NHS organisations which serve a significant proportion of Scotland's population.

It includes people living in major Scottish cities and some of the most remote areas in Europe.  It includes leading researchers from nursing, midwifery and allied health; health services research; medicine; psychology and other social sciences.

Vision

The Alliance for Self Care Research views patients, carers and family members as co-producers of health, function and well-being who are respectfully supported in their efforts by Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals.  Health professionals are relying on research evidence to work towards maintaining health, preventing and treating illness and managing the impact on everyday life.

The combined strength of the Alliance cuts across traditional academic and clinical boundaries to support the development and delivery of high quality NMAHP research to enhance self care.

Aims

The Alliance has two main aims:

1.  to undertake rigorous research to provide an evidence base for "enhancing self-care";

2.  to build capacity and capability amongst nurses, midwives and allied health professionals.  One of our key attributes is the range and quality of these supporting disciplines (representing 4, 5 or 5* RAE rated departments).

The Alliance for Self Care Research (ASCR) works in collaboration with the following Universities/Organisations:
