The Alliance for Self Care Research is a consortium of the universities of Aberdeen, Abertay, Dundee, Robert Gordon, St Andrews and Stirling and their local NHS organisations which serve a significant proportion of Scotland's population.
It includes people living in major Scottish cities and some of the most remote areas in Europe. It includes leading researchers from nursing, midwifery and allied health; health services research; medicine; psychology and other social sciences.

Aims
The Alliance has two main aims:
1. to undertake rigorous research to provide an evidence base for "enhancing self-care";
2. to build capacity and capability amongst nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. One of our key attributes is the range and quality of these supporting disciplines (representing 4, 5 or 5* RAE rated departments).

Vision
The vision of the Alliance for Self Care Research is that Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals will respect patients, carers and family members as co-producers of health and will use the evidence base to work with them to maintain health, prevent and treat illness and manage its impact on everyday life.
The combined strength of the Alliance offers a unique opportunity to cut across traditional boundaries, both academic and clinical, in order to support the development and delivery of high quality NMAHP research to enhance self-care.
The Alliance also runs the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Training Scheme that offers high quality research training and support for doctoral and post-doctoral NMAHPs who are able to develop their research and maintain links with clinical practice.
